Baggage problems

Was your baggage late, damaged or lost? Air France will do everything possible to resolve your baggage problem, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Didn´t receive your baggage upon arrival at the airport? Please accept our apologies. Its delivery may be delayed due to technical difficulties or a missing baggage tag. Here you will find information on the process to follow if your baggage was not delivered.

At the airport

Didn´t receive your baggage? Please alert the airport´s Air France Baggage Service immediately. We will give you a document (Property Irregularity Report – PIR) that you must fill out before leaving the airport. You will then receive a baggage file number. Please keep this to track your request.
Didn´t receive your baggage upon arrival at the airport? Please fill out the online declaration form within 24 hours of your arrival*.

* Only if your arrival airport is one of the following: Ajaccio, Basel-Mulhouse, Bastia, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nantes, Nice, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Paris-Orly, Strasbourg, Toulon or Toulouse.

After leaving the airport

Tracking file progress

In the 5 days following your arrival, your airport´s baggage service is responsible for handling your baggage file. You can also track the progress of your file online using  World Tracer .

Necessity purchases

Did you make necessity purchases* (such as those for hygienic products or clothing) because your baggage was late? You have 21 days from your flight´s arrival date to submit a reimbursement request. Simply send your receipts to the Air France Baggage Service

* Up to €100 per person is reimbursed, upon presentation of original receipts. This reimbursement only concerns passengers that were not traveling to their homes.

Found baggage delivery

When your baggage is located, we contact you to arrange for delivery. In the meantime, you can track the progress of your baggage file using World Tracer .

What to do if your baggage is not found

  • If we do not locate your baggage in an initial period of 3 days following your arrival, please fill out the inventory form that was given to you when your baggage file was created. Return it by mail to the Air France Baggage Service
  • If your baggage has not been located after 21 days, please contact directly the Air France Baggage Service in your country of residence

Compensation for lost baggage

If despite all efforts your baggage is not found, Air France offers compensation. According to the  Montreal convention , this compensation can be paid up to €1,130*. If the value of your property is greater than this amount, you can make a special declaration when your baggage is registered as lost. Depending on the difference, you will be compensated at its true value in the case of loss.

* Compensation is counted in Special Drawing Rights (SDR). The SDR is the currency used by the International Monetary Fund. 1,000 SDR convert to approximately €1,130 (this conversion rate varies according to fluctuations in currency).
